Engagement Shoot

Christina and Colm's SEPTEMBER 2016 Wedding by Aidan Oliver Photography by Aidan Oliver Weldon

Christina and Colm came over to Ireland last September from Canada to get married in magical Connemara. They held their civil ceremony in Clifden and I was asked to cover the reception side of their wedding which took place in Cashel House Hotel, just off the N59 Maam to Clifden road. September in Clifden, well you may take the weather with a pinch of salt and this day was a mixed one with that post rain smell lifting the senses and freshening things up a notch. The sun even made an appearance late in the evening which was most welcome.

Cashel House as a backdrop is absolutely beautiful, nestled against the rocks and directly across from the shores of Cashel Bay, a real retreat from the bustle of Clifden and similar townships. The wedding planner Christina and Colm chose was Samantha Harding and I've yet to see a more passionate person look after a wedding. Everything was finished to an absolute T and I really must do a separate blog about the flowers at some stage as they were the most beautiful seasonal arrangement of flowers, stems berries and leaves.

I had taken a stroll around the grounds of Cashel House earlier during the day and had noticed the wonderful herb garden along with an overgrown walkway up steps and into a canopied clearing that very much reminded me of a jungle. When the lovely couple arrived post ceremony at 17:05 we took this route for a stroll and as always I captured as unobtrusively as possible, letting the newly married chat about their day and have a bit of fun. It's funny, many couples tell me that they really value this small bit of time on their own, a chance to recap on the day and the busy weeks that have led up to this point.

A few family photos were captured, dinner was served, Colm and friends sang as a Barbershop Quartet and Christina shed a tear whilst they performed. I thanked them for being wonderful to work with, wished them the very best for their future and headed back to Dublin, and all along much reminiscing about the day that really had just flown.

Simon and Natasha Engagement Shoot - Lifestyle Photography by Conor Palin-Stewart Photography

The photos in this collection are some of the shots taken on Simon and Natasha's recent engagement shoot. Simon contacted me through the o2 treats program and we settled on a location in the Pheonix Park, ie the pond just off the Ordinance Road.

Being mid Spring the weather was cool but not warm enough to take off coats, but this did not stop us from capturing some intimate moments of the lovely couple. The backdrop is wonderful to shoot in and the light this time of year very illuminating.

Sarah and Billy Engagement Shoot - Lifestyle Photography by Conor Palin-Stewart Photography

More engagement shoots this summer and Sarah and Billy's July shoot was undertaken in the rain which was not ideal but we did our best to ensure that we covered as much of the shoot as possible in the shelter, ie, under tree cover, and also with the help of the trusty umbrella (a number of which I carry along for the inevitable Irish weather).

The photoshoot was undertaken early morn in St Anne's Park in Raheny, a short stroll from the James Larkin coast road.  I was after shooting a wedding the day before in Kilkenny and we had decided that evening to go ahead pending Met Eireann's 'wet finger in the sky' forecast and all appeared well until a half an hour into the shoot and the the rain appeared!. So fiddlesticks and all the rest, we carried on, and to be honest it turned out well, Billy's wet dog adding some character to the shoot - he seemed to have delighted in the whole affair!. The shot taken which looks like a foggy background, was actual heavy misty rain and it is one of my favourites of the day as was a second shot of the railing taken with dripping rain.

Of particular interest was the rose garden which was part of St. Anne’s Park Rose Festival 2011 which was held a week later in St. Anne’s Park, Raheny on Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th July, 2011. The colors of the roses added a lively palette to the shoot, further enhanced by the diffused light of early morning.

Four hours later I was photographing Neil Delamere on the river Liffey for his new show "The Only Viking In The Village", which will be aired in a few months time - the weather could not have been more amiable. A busy but enjoyable two days of action packed photography.

We thank Sarah and Billy for being so easy to work with and we so look forward to photographing their wedding next year!.

Rebecca and Aidan's Engagement Shoot plus Wedding Shoot by Conor Palin-Stewart Photography

Rebecca and Aidan's recent engagement shoot and wedding took place within three days of each other as they both traveled from the UK to be married in Howth, Co Dublin, which by all accounts is a beautiful scenic part of County Dublin. The day we undertook the engagement shoot was the first day to meet the lovely couple but this did not stop us from having some fun during the shoot in a place unfamiliar to us all. We decided to photograph the engagement shoot on the fantastic grounds of the Deer Park Hotel and Golf Club, where the couple were staying prior to their wedding. The wedding ceremony itself took place in the Church of the Assumption in Howth. Afterwards the wedding party celebrated with a meal in the Aqua restaurant located on West Pier, Howth. The windy and showery weather was against us throughout but we manage to grab some photos in between the incliment weather.

Here is exactly what the bride sent to me as a testimonial: "We LOVE the photos! Thank you so so much. You have captured every moment perfectly for us and we are delighted with them. There are some fantastic ones too from the engagement shoot!. Thanks once again Aidan; you have made us very happy!!"

We wish Rebecca and Aidan the very best for their future together.
