Urban Portraits by Aidan Oliver Weldon

When a client asks you to fulfill a portrait brief and the brief is a blank canvas, then you have a brush within which to paint with imagination, experience, passion and the rest of the ingredients which should define a photograph that exhibits character, emotion and individual expression. You do not always get this opportunity so the onus is on the photographer to attempt to use all the above to create something that is unique, a defining portrait that engages the viewer, ie, of course your client. Such was the photoshoot with Ugis which took place earlier this month. We engaged in conversation, which is the art of subject to subject communication in an attempt to break through the "client/photographer" wall, often experienced when time is critical to complete such a task. The photographer in most cases needs to listen, to empathise, understand and direct when all has been seemingly understood regarding the shoot specifics. Imagination is essential, experience critical, understanding is paramount and sympathy a must should you wish your subject to interact successfully and be relaxed during the shoot.

The title "Urban Portraits" is used to emphasize our need ability and want to interact in the environment, particularly when one has originated in a rural upbringing, thus we (I) am challenged to see differently.

Ugis was brilliant to work with, we had a laugh and I hope that the photographs show his real character and definition, from the variation of wide angle used to exaggerate perspective to the stark and close cropped head/shoulders shot. Ugis contacted me through the o2 treats program where I am offering a free callout fee to all who redeem this offer. You simply pay for fantastic artistic and emotional photography!. Simon and Natasha Engagement Shoot - Lifestyle Photography by Conor Kinchella Stewart Photography

The photos in this collection are some of the shots taken on Simon and Natasha's recent engagement shoot. Simon contacted me through the o2 treats program and we settled on a location in the Pheonix Park, ie the pond just off the Ordinance Road.

Being mid Spring the weather was cool but not warm enough to take off coats, but this did not stop us from capturing some intimate moments of the lovely couple. The backdrop is wonderful to shoot in and the light this time of year very illuminating.

Sarah and Billy Engagement Shoot - Lifestyle Photography by Conor Kinchella Stewart Photography

More engagement shoots this summer and Sarah and Billy's July shoot was undertaken in the rain which was not ideal but we did our best to ensure that we covered as much of the shoot as possible in the shelter, ie, under tree cover, and also with the help of the trusty umbrella (a number of which I carry along for the inevitable Irish weather).

The photoshoot was undertaken early morn in St Anne's Park in Raheny, a short stroll from the James Larkin coast road.  I was after shooting a wedding the day before in Kilkenny and we had decided that evening to go ahead pending Met Eireann's 'wet finger in the sky' forecast and all appeared well until a half an hour into the shoot and the the rain appeared!. So fiddlesticks and all the rest, we carried on, and to be honest it turned out well, Billy's wet dog adding some character to the shoot - he seemed to have delighted in the whole affair!. The shot taken which looks like a foggy background, was actual heavy misty rain and it is one of my favourites of the day as was a second shot of the railing taken with dripping rain.

Of particular interest was the rose garden which was part of St. Anne’s Park Rose Festival 2011 which was held a week later in St. Anne’s Park, Raheny on Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th July, 2011. The colors of the roses added a lively palette to the shoot, further enhanced by the diffused light of early morning.

Four hours later I was photographing Neil Delamere on the river Liffey for his new show "The Only Viking In The Village", which will be aired in a few months time - the weather could not have been more amiable. A busy but enjoyable two days of action packed photography.

We thank Sarah and Billy for being so easy to work with and we so look forward to photographing their wedding next year!.

Lisa and Shane Wedding - 25th February 2011 by Conor Kinchella Stewart Photography

I am just getting round to posting some photos of Lisa and Shane's wedding on 25th February just gone. This wedding took place in Kinnitty Castle, a gothic revival castle situated just outside Kinnity village, Co Offaly, against the magical backdrop of the Slieve Bloom Mountains.

Kinnitty is a wonderful venue to photograph in and although this was a winter wedding we were not short of a backdrop within which to capture relaxed and emotive images. Both Lisa and Shane were up for some fun and really enjoyed themselves having left the organisation and finer details up to Annie Byrne from Ashlinn Events, their wedding coordinator.
